LCSWMA completes land purchase for compressed-natural-gas project

by thiryj

The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority has completed its purchase of 3.8 acres on Dillerville Road in Manheim Township, which will be used partially for its planned building of compressed-natural-gas-fueling infrastructure.

LCSWMA, which expects to finalize its deal to acquire the troubled Harrisburg incinerator this year, purchased the land from Lancaster-based Burnham Holdings Inc. for $1.35 million, effective Tuesday.

The authority was leasing a little more than a quarter-acre as part of its transfer station operations, while Burnham used the rest for staging for its boiler manufacturing operations. Burnham is the parent company of 14 subsidiaries that make boilers as well as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment.

LCSWMA last year announced it was converting its transfer truck fleet to CNG vehicles. The infrastructure will serve the authority and other customers.

“When opportunities arise for acquiring properties contingent to our current sites, we’re always interested,” CEO Jim Warner said. “The additional acreage offers us flexibility for developing new initiatives and opportunities should they arise in the future.”
