In brief: Lancaster housing market continues to strengthen

By Jason Scott

The Lancaster County housing market has grown by 13.7 percent through July compared with the same period a year ago, according to the Lancaster County Association of Realtors.
In July, 420 homes were sold, which was up 17.6 percent from July 2011.

The average sale price was $185,143, an increase of 2.6 percent from last year, the association said. The five-year average sale price in Lancaster County for July is $192,387.

At the same time, new listings dropped 3.8 percent in July compared with the same year-ago month. Pending sales increased 25.1 percent to 474 in July, the association said.

“Market activity — from the level of interest of consumers making inquiries and visiting

open houses all the way through to completed transactions — continues to show a renewed sense that now is indeed a great time to buy a home,” said Quentin Miller, the association’s president.
